THE PERFECT DATE NIGHT IN EAST-END TORONTO
There’s nothing wrong with a night of Netflix and takeout. But, there’s no better excuse than Valentine’s day to get all dressed up and do something special with that special someone. Problem is you can just as easily end up having the same overpriced prix-fixe dinner from last year, and history will continue to repeat itself. It’ time to try something new! If you’re looking for a V-Day free of clichés in the East End of Toronto, we’ve got you covered.
Grab a coffee at Dark Horse
The day of love falls on Friday this year, so for starters, get the idea of an early night out of your mind. Start your evening with a caffeinated beverage, because tonight’s going to be a late one. If things are getting steamy a little too early (remember, you’ve got a long night ahead of you), cool things down with an iced coffee or lemonade. If iced drinks in -10º C weather isn’t your cup of tea, you can enjoy a rich Americano. All the beans used at Dark Horse are locally sourced form Canadian roasters 49th Parallel and Detour.
Meet at the Market
After your evening energy boost, it’s time to get some appetizers at Souk Tabule. Their saj bread is delicate, simple and authentically baked in their Lebanese-imported saj oven. Dip it into their fresh muhammara, a paste of roasted pepper, walnut, spices, and Aleppo pepper, or beet mutable, and you’ll be begging for more. If you fall in love with any of their dishes, the front section of the restaurant has a market-style area where you can gather special ingredients imported from Lebanon and surprise your special someone with a spontaneous Valentine’s gift.
Get the authentic Thai experience at Sukhothai
Chef Nuit Regular has been owning the Thai experience in Toronto, and her location in the Canary District won’t disappoint. This cosy spot is just the place to get the best pad thai and khao soi in Toronto. Nothing says, “this is not your typical date” more than getting their messy lettuce cups filled with lemongrass beef, noodles, cabbage, and cilantro served with Sukhothai’s signature sauce. Spilling half of the contents of the wrap all over yourself might not be very romantic, but love conquers all, right?
